Care Instructions for granite.
Granite.
Granite is formed from molten rock beneath the earth's surface over millions of years under great pressure. It is mainly composed of fused crystals of Feldspar and Micah and like most natural stone is very porous.
Polished granite is one of the most often used stones for countertops in new and remodeled homes. But it is easily damaged by water, minerals, oils, acids and food stains if not sealed properly.

Honed granite has a matte finish, achieved by using an abrasive process that polishes the granite just short of brilliance and luster. But the pores of honed granite are wide open. Honed granite absolutely must be sealed with a quality, penetrating sealer. If not, honed granite will stain easily.
DO:
Be diligent about wiping up as quickly as possible the types of spills that can etch (dull the finish) your stone. Especially be careful of vinegar products, fruit, fruit juices and tomato based products.
One acceptable method for daily cleaning is to use a microfiber cloth and mild dish soap. Avoid using dish soaps with lemon or other fruit scents; they contain a minimal level of citric acid and will eventually diminish the effectiveness of the sealant. Dampen one microfiber cloth with warm water and a small amount of dish soap and wring the cloth so it is just damp. As you wipe the surface with the damp cloth, follow immediately with a clean, dry microfiber cloth in the other hand to take up the moisture and remove any residue or streaking that might remain.
If you develop mineral deposits, particularly around the sink areas, remove them in the following manner: scrape it using a new single edge razor (hold the razor at a 90 degree angle to the surface) moving the blade gently back and forth until the build-up is scraped away. This will not damage the sealant on your granite. But please remember the very best thing you can do is to regularly use microfiber cloths and non-citric dish soap.
DON'T:
Ever use acidic (vinegar, etc.) or abrasive cleaners for mineral build up should it occur.
Ever feel that it is necessary to buy and use special revitalizers, cleaners, polishes or sealants for your granite. Once sealed, use the cleaning procedures we have already discussed and your beautiful granite surface should remain beautiful.
Ever prepare food items (particularly those high in acid content) directly on your surface. Use cutting boards.
Set hot items from the oven directly on your granite.
